One Girl, Two Cities

Guest Profile: Jake Ilika

boatsJake Ilika is a local musician via Winona via Bloomington and I happily welcomed him to the show September 23rd. I’m admittedly unfamiliar with Winona, but I know it makes for an easy day trip. Jake has performed at the Boats and Bluegrass Festival for several years so we enjoyed Tallgrass Beer, a sponsor of the festival, while we chatted about all the activities included in the weekend. He now resides in Anoka and has jumped head first into the Twin Cities music scene with upcoming residencies at Harriet Brewing and The Nicollet, along with a new music venture with singer Elizabeth Ghandour and fiddler Tony Comeau. Find details on their show at Morrissey’s October 16th here.

Jake brought his guitar along and performed one song live, and we played “Minnesota Homegrown” by his band The Heavy Set. Find it on Bandcamp here. We gave lots of shout outs to venues and artists and mentioned tons of upcoming performances. If you missed the show, the podcast is free on iTunes here or on our RSS feed for non-iTunes users.
