2015 was quite the year! I’ve been reflecting on everything I’ve done, as well as thinking about my goals for 2016. But we’ll save the goals for a different post. The biggest stand out to me is that I traveled internationally twice. Kind of funny for a gal who blogs about the local scene in the Twin Cities, but I sincerely love traveling and hope to do more in 2016. Playa del Carmen was beautiful and fun, and it was my first visit to anywhere in Mexico! Iceland was also a great place to travel to, and I’m still planning to write another post or two about it. So far for 2016, Chris and I are working on trips to Florida, Texas, NYC, Alaska, Orgeon, and if all goes well, we’ll hit New Zealand for a big trip next winter.
He and I loved our road trip through Wisconsin and Illinois in April, especially visiting Pig Minds Brewing (we’ve stopped there 2 more times between then and now if that tells you anything). I mean, you really can’t go wrong when you plan a road trip around food, right? We made trips back to Madison and Chicago, then tacked on Fargo/Moorhead and the Michigan UP.
2015 brought a lot of Twin Cities firsts, like seeing my first opera! I also attended the first official TEDx Minneapolis and finally went to Ignite Minneapolis for the first time. Both of these were filled with incredible, entertaining, motivating talks and I can’t recommend them enough. Seeing local band Marah in the Mainsail was on the to do list (that I never quite got around to writing…), and I did get to see them at their album release party at Turf Club. It was everything I wanted it to be.
I started a new segment on my blog called Throwback Thursday where I share journal entries starting from when I was 12. Reading them has been quite the trip for me, and I hope you’ve been enjoying them as well. #TCTalk also made its twitter chat debut on Oct 5 and it’s been a blast! It now runs every other Monday from 8-9pm and we’ve covered brunch, events, beer and more.
In September, I celebrated two years of running One Girl, Two Cities and it’s taken me more places than I expected it to. I loved hosting two podcasts and made the tough decision to end both of them this year. I also wrote my last article for RedCurrent in October. In November, I had the supreme pleasure of hosting MinsgameBOSS with some fellow bloggers, and it led us to a community filled with more support than we ever would have dreamed. 2016 is already promising some new and exciting opportunities but I have to keep those under lock and key for now.
To wrap up, let’s look at some numbers! After reviewing my 2015 goals, I was happy to see that I surpassed my goal of going to 5 new theaters by going to 8 that I’d never been to before. Hopefully I can keep that up in 2016 because I feel like I’m still only skimming the surface of the local theater community. And I won’t share total numbers, but my site views literally doubled from 2014 to 2015 which is pretty awesome. So, if you’ve made it this far down, thank you! Thank you for reading and commenting and sharing and just supporting what I’m doing. Cheers to the end of one year and the start of another!
Here are some quick stats on my year:
67+: Theater performances I attended (and way more if you count Fringe Fest shows but I included Fringe Fest in events instead). I attended about half as many in 2014 which seems crazy to me.
28+: Live music events I attended. This number is down from 2014, but let’s face it. I’m getting older and it’s tough for me to stay out late.
