One Girl, Two Cities

Throwback Thursday 8.23.1994

journalI can’t believe I’ve been 13 for only 13 days. It seems longer than that. And now there’s only 2 weeks left until school starts. I can’t wait!

It’ll give me something to do besides walk around the house all day. I might take up tennis. If I do, my school year will be REALLY busy. I hafta see Jon (and other friends) when I can, practice piano and oboe, along with homework, and I’m thinking of doing something like yearbook. I’ll be busy, that’s for sure.

I also will hafta keep up with my pen pals. This’ll be some year. I’m gonna try to keep my grades up and studying for tests might actually help. J/K. I hate studying for tests, but I’ve got to, otherwise my grades will fall and my mom will yell at me. She always does when I get anything lower than, say… a B+. And then Sara hasta go and get straight As.

Life sucks.

I think Sara was put on Earth mainly to bug the hell outta me, like act like my second mother and be perfect so my parents adore her and can say, “Be more like Sara, she studies for tests.” Blah. Blah. Blah.

I don’t care about Sara. What’s wrong with being me?

I want to see Jon soon. Maybe tomorrow. I luv being with him. I can forget about everything. I’m going to the State Fair with him on Friday. It’ll be so much fun. I hope we don’t hafta stay with his parents.

I have an ortho appointment tomorrow. Hopefully I can find out when I get my braces off. It’ll be in September for sure. Oh, it’ll be so nice. Well, I’ll go now. BYE!

Apparently I was an old 13-year-old, haha.

Isn’t it interesting to see what “busy” meant to a 13-year-old as compared to a 34-year-old? I don’t have pen pals. I don’t have homework. But I’m still very busy. Work is a lot of work, and I’m attempting to maintain some semblance of a social life. Things were definitely easier back then when I wasn’t so aware of my emotions and how much my level of busy-ness affects me.

I had to laugh when I read what I wrote about my sister because I’m still telling people that she’s the “good daughter.” The one who visits my parents more and generally is better about communicating with them. She’s still the responsible one. But I love her, and she’s a wonderful older sister.

LOL I love all the “hafta’s”! And I was pretty much complaining about the same things at 13, being “so busy” all the time and complaining about braces!

It’s weird thinking about being busy when we were younger. Mine is sort of the opposite though. I think back to what I had on my plate in high school and it exhausts me. Band, dance, color guard captain, church, working almost full time, school, still having a social life, tons of chores, homework, even the military in my senior year. I have no idea how I did it. These days I try to have a much more simple schedule!
