Mad City Vegan Fest 2015 (2 of 3)

Let the eating continue!

When Chris and I drove through Madison on our April road trip, we stopped at Monty’s Blue Plate Diner for breakfast (check out my review), so it was fun to see them at Mad City Vegan Fest. They offered samples of their chili which is chock full of yummy veggies. Bonus: Chris doesn’t like mushrooms, so I got his too! I would order this at the restaurant but maybe only in the winter.

While the free food samples were plentiful, I couldn’t resist purchasing a waffle cone from Chocolate Shoppe with a scoop of their soy Espresso Oreo ice cream. It was smooth and chocolatey and made me so happy. The perfect food for a warm, sunny summer day. Their Butter Pecan also sounds scrumptious. [Chris and I attempted a vegan ice cream crawl in the Twin Cities, so keep an eye out for my post on that.]

Next up, we tried the Rattlesnake Tofu and Chipotle Black Beans from The Cheeze Factory Restaurant. It’s another spot we hit up on our April road trip (see post here) so it was fun to try a couple different things. The tofu had great texture, and they added just the right amount of BBQ sauce to the sample.veg fest food 6Another sample I would recommend is General Tso’s Chick’n from Whole Foods – the sauce is awesome! We also tried a couple flavors of Yumbutter, but the extra stuff they add to the Superfood varieties (i.e. chia and hemp seeds, goji powder) change the flavor a bit too much for my liking. The taquitos from Starlite Cuisine were good, and they even have three different kinds. I may have to order some from veganessentials.com, especially since they provided a coupon code for 15% off (see photo). I didn’t purchase anything, but all the food at The Next Level Vegans table looked scrumptious! From the unclear info on their website, it looks like they’re a food truck in Milwaukee so I’ll try to look them up the next time I drive through.

My mouth is watering just thinking about all this food! If you missed Part 1 of my Mad City Vegan Fest series, find it here and make sure to check out Chris’ recap on Everyday Tastiness.

Coming up on the calendar, we have Chicago VeganMania October 10, Fargo Moorhead VegFest October 18 and the Twin Cities Veg Fest November 1.
