One Girl, Two Cities

September 2015 Preview

plantsSeptember is just around the corner, and I think we’ve all felt that touch of fall this week with the cool, brisk air. My calendar for the month is filling up nicely, so here’s a look ahead at what I have planned. Please share in the comments what you’re looking forward to in September!

Minnesota State Fair: My sister and I both took off work Wednesday the 2nd because neither of us likes fighting the crowds on weekends. I’m armed with a list of new foods to try and want to enter to win the $50 Arc’s Value Village gift card (details here). I make sure to hit the Fine Arts Building and check out the crop art since they’re always new from year-to-year. (Did you hear there was a proposal via crop art this year?? Read the story here. So Minnesotan!) You can also read my recap from 2014 here.

jatcJack & The Coax CD Release at Turf Club: I’ve seen the indie rock band on and off over the past couple years (and helped with an article for RedCurrent here) and I’m so stoked for their release show for Whiskey Kids. Details are on the Turf Club website.

catcCocktails at the Castle: This will be my third CATC at the American Swedish Institute and I will continue to go because they’re so fun! The theme is All Strings Attached and the VIP tickets historically sell out. Check the website for details. Hope to see you there!

Social Media Rockstar Event: This is the third annual event, and it’s a digital and social media marketing conference that takes place September 16 in Morton, MN. I’ve been enjoying learning more and more about social media recently and happened to win free registration! It’s about a 2-hour drive from Minneapolis but with a discounted room rate and free registration, I couldn’t pass it up. Find more details here.

ivey awardsTheatre: So far I have eight shows on the list. Well, seven shows and an event. The Ivey Awards take place each September and are basically the Tony Awards of the Twin Cities. I highly recommend looking at their website because this year’s campaign is stunning. The shows I’m seeing are listed below.

  1. The Explorer’s Club by Lyric Arts
  2. Throwback BNW: Junk From Our Trunk at Brave New Workshop
  3. Cinderella at The Orpheum
  4. The Little Pilot by Sandbox Theatre
  5. Dancing at Lughnasa at Yellow Tree Theatre
  6. To Kill A Mockingbird at the Guthrie
  7. Ivey Awards at the State Theatre
  8. The Realish Housewives of Edina at New Century Theatre

So that’s a glimpse at my September. What are you most looking forward to? I’d love for you to leave a comment below!

Fun September shaping up for you! I’m looking forward to hopefully visiting a winery, an apple orchard and attending Surlyfest at the end of the month in September.
