The only two local places that I know offer vegan waffles are Black Coffee and Waffle Bar and The Buzz Coffee and Café. Hopefully I can add to this list at some point, and if you know of any others please mention them in the comments! (Thank you to Jessica for mentioning French Meadow – I’ll have to try it soon!)
The Buzz Coffee and Café is in Burnsville, which is where my sister lives, so it’s the perfect spot for us to grab breakfast together. They have ten vegan waffle options, most of which are topped with fruit – yum! The waffles are also gluten free, and the menu states they’re made with “rice flour, raw sugar, and a few other natural and vegan rising agents.” I tried the Banana Bread Waffle (pictured above) which has cinnamon mixed in, and it’s topped with sliced bananas and chopped pecans. It was dense but not overly so, and the flavor was great! I would never have guessed it’s gluten free.
They have a large drink menu with soy and almond milk available. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful.

A few months ago I tried Black Coffee and Waffle Bar for the first time, and it was amazingly decadent! I had heard through the vegan grapevine that they offered a vegan waffle; it’s not listed on their regular menu so you have to know to ask for it. (It’s mentioned on their FAQ page, however.) As you can see above, I opted for the Naughty Waffle – I only had to leave off the whipped cream. The almond butter was heaven and it was nice to have fruit to make it feel healthier (wink). The Banana Nut Waffle is topped with bananas, walnuts, cinnamon, and nutmeg and was also delicious.
The waffles pair perfectly with a hot coffee, and soy and almond milk are available. Note that they have two locations – one each in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
