Some people do “What I eat in a day” posts, but I enjoyed too much deliciousness this weekend to do just one day. The last time I went to the Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market was in search of Radical Eats’ vegan cheese curds. I wasn’t able to have them then, but this weekend: success! They were everything I wanted, including the sauce which has a nice heat.
I also had to hit up Sweet Root for this S’mores Cookie – Sarah uses a brûlée torch on the marshmallow as you order, which melts the chocolate at the same time. Perfection.
The main reason I spent a lot of time dining out this weekend was that my friend Wayne was visiting from Chicago. In honor of this, I had the Chicago Dog at J. Selby’s which I didn’t enjoy as much as the Chili Dog which seems to have more flavor.
We hit up The Herbivorous Butcher Food Truck at Venn Brewing for some Bacon Mac. The evening was beautiful, and I was happy to spend it outside on Venn’s patio. The Mac is garlic pepper havarti cheese sauce topped with ranch and hickory bacon and I can’t get enough of it.
I’m slightly obsessed with Buzz Coffee and Cafe, and I’m doing my best to work my way through the huge vegan menu. The Apple Brie was an amazing combination of sweet and savory, and my friends got the Club, Cinnamon Roll, and BBQ Chicken waffles. We were all stuffed and happy afterwards. Saturday evening was my first time visiting the Little Mekong Night Market. We got there early and it was HOT, so next time I’d go later in the evening after the sun goes down. The place was hopping, and while 90% of the vendors seemed to be slinging meat or bubble tea, we bee lined for Spinning Wylde and their cotton candy creations. The flavor options are endless, and this time I had limoncello topped with dried strawberries, plus refreshing watermelon juice.
Thai Garden is on the same block as the market and offers many vegan options – just tell the staff and they can leave off egg and/or fish sauce, etc. in most dishes. They also offer tofu as a protein for many dishes.
We made sure to hit up Crepe and Spoon for crepes and ice cream…
…and Pizza Luce for brunch. The Little Surfer Baja Burrito was overloaded with jalapeños but had a nice flavor once I picked them out. Inside is also tofu scramble, mock duck, pico de gallo, and black beans.
A stop at the Linden Hills Farmers Market was necessary to pick up some goodies from Dulceria Bakery, but after running into my friend Jen, we had vegan Bao Buns from Bad Gyros upon her recommendation. The turmeric tofu’s texture was perfect, and it was fried just right. I also love the spice of the sriracha and the crunch from the pickled veggies. I would have these again, no question.
To round it all out, I got the Chocolate Fix smoothie from the Whole Sum Kitchen food truck at the Linden Hills Farmers Market. It’s banana, peanut butter, and raw chocolate – yum! I recently was added as a brand ambassador for Whole Sum, and I’m excited to work my way through the menu.
